About this event

My name is Cree Longjohn and I am from Sturgeon Lake First Nation, Saskatchewan. My post-secondary journey has included a diploma from Saskatchewan Polytechnic in Integrated Resource Management and Bachelor of Science from the University of Saskatchewan in Renewable Resource Management. Currently, I am pursuing an additional Bachelor of Science in biology with the intent of obtaining a Bachelor of Education degree.

Outside of my studies, I have had the opportunity to present STEM and natural sciences to a variety of students. I have worked as a Science Ambassador in northern rural communities, a Nutrien Kamskénow Instructor in an urban community and a park interpreter in Prince Albert National Park. Each location has unique characteristics, mandates and challenges to engage learners I exploring STEM and Indigenous knowledges of place.

In my workshop, I will demonstrate how I have presented and tailored my teaching style to fit the needs of each of the unique audience in an urban, rural and outdoor setting. Following this presentation, I would like to challenge the workshop participants to create a short hands-on activity based off of the materials provided. We will end in a discussion on the benefits of challenges of incorporating hands-on activities and different styles of teaching techniques.
